Search Engine Introduction

Submitting to thousands of Search Engines

There are literally thousands of search engines and web directories available on the web today.  Although submitting to these engines may increase your number of visitors, over 90% of all web users use the top fifteen or so major engines when conducting a search. Currently these include: Yahoo, Alta Vista, Excite, Google, iWon, Fast, Lycos, InfoSeek, WebCrawler, HotBot, MSN Search and Goto.com.  (Your specific circumstances may also dictate the use of other "local" or "topic specific" search engines and directories.)

Positioning at the top

The next most important element of an Internet Marketing Campaign is having your Web site on the first three page of responses when relevant keywords or phrases are entered, as most web surfers don't continue past the first 20-30 entries. Positioning your web site at the top of the major search engines with these search phrases allows you to reach the consumers that are most interested in your products and services.  It is important to budget not only for your web site design and maintenance but also for its preparation and submission to search engines.

Reach the top 30 and stay there

It is relatively easy to be indexed by a search engine. To consistently rank in the top 30 positions is more difficult.  These are the web sites that surfers looking for specific information click on. The methods the search engines use to rank and index sites is constantly changing, however by specifically designing your web page for the major search engines and submitting it effectively it is possible to greatly increase your site's visibility.
